چکیده

In this paper we investigate the emergence of time-periodic and and time-quasiperiodic (sometimes infinitely long lived and sometimes very long lived or metastable) solutions of discrete nonlinear wave equations: discrete sine Gordon, discrete φ and discrete nonlinear Schrödinger. The solutions we consider are periodic oscillations on a kink or standing wave breather background. The origin of these oscillations is the presence of internal modes, associated with the static ground state. Some of these modes are associated with the breaking of translational invariance, in going from a spatially continuous to a spatially discrete system. Others are associated with discrete modes which bifurcate from the continuous spectrum. It is also possible that such modes exist in the continuum limit and persist in the discrete case. The regimes of existence, stability and metastability of states as the lattice spacing is varied are investigated analytically and numerically. A consequence of our analysis is a class of spatially localized, time quasiperiodic solutions of the discrete nonlinear Schrödinger equation. We demonstrate, however, that this class of quasiperiodic solution is rather special and that its natural generalizations yield only metastable quasiperiodic solutions.

Intrinsically localized chaos in discrete nonlinear extended systems

– The phenomenon of intrinsic localization in discrete nonlinear extended systems, i.e. the (generic) existence of discrete breathers, is shown to be not restricted to periodic solutions but it also extends to more complex (chaotic) dynamical behaviour. We illustrate this with two different forced and damped systems exhibiting this type of solutions: In an anisotropic Josephson junction ladder,...

The extended homogeneous balance method and exact solutions of the Maccari system

The extended homogeneous balance method is used to construct exact traveling wave solutions of the Maccari system, in which the homogeneous balance method is applied to solve the Riccati equation and the reduced nonlinear ordinary differential equation. Many exact traveling wave solutions of the Maccari system equation are successfully obtained.

Excitation Thresholds for Nonlinear Localized Modes on Lattices

Breathers are spatially localized and time periodic solutions of extended Hamiltonian dynamical systems. In this paper we study excitation thresholds for (nonlinearly dynamically stable) ground state breather or standing wave solutions for networks of coupled nonlinear oscillators and wave equations of nonlinear Schrödinger (NLS) type. Excitation thresholds are rigorously characterized by varia...

Modified F-Expansion Method Applied to Coupled System of Equation

A modified F-expansion method to find the exact traveling wave solutions of  two-component nonlinear partial differential equations (NLPDEs) is discussed. We use this method to construct many new solutions to the nonlinear Whitham-Broer-Kaup system (1+1)-dimensional. The solutions obtained include Jacobi elliptic periodic wave solutions which exactly degenerate to the soliton solutions, triangu...

Wave scattering by discrete breathers.

We present a theoretical study of linear wave scattering in one-dimensional nonlinear lattices by intrinsic spatially localized dynamic excitations or discrete breathers. These states appear in various nonlinear systems and present a time-periodic localized scattering potential for plane waves. We consider the case of elastic one-channel scattering, when the frequencies of incoming and transmit...
